How is Haven impacted by the state budget instability?

The uncertainty of the state budget continues to present challenges for Haven and the youth we serve.  The state runaway and homeless youth program funded by the state makes up one-third of Haven’s budget.  Despite the instability of this crucial funding, we have continued to offer housing and crisis intervention services throughout the budget crisis.

Your donation is more vital to the health of our agency than ever!

We also receive inquiries about what sorts of non-monetary donations would be helpful for Haven.  We appreciate donations that can assist us with outreach and therapy services, such as:

Therapy:

Art therapy supplies (markers, oil and chalk pastels, colored pencils, crayons, gently used magazines for collage, watercolors, pencil sharpeners, glue/gluesticks/Modge Podge, paintbrushes, feathers, construction/tracing/drawing/watercolor paper, scissors, scraps of fabric, gently used action figures for sand tray therapy, finger paint, glitter, sequins, etc., ETC.), gift cards to purchase the above items from Blick, Target or Michael’s, playing cards, Jenga, Uno.

Outreach:

Sidewalk chalk, poster markers, board games (easily transportable, i.e. “Spot It,” “Apples to Apples” and other games that are easy to play in a short period of time,) AA batteries for video games in drop-in centers, candy (non-perishable and individually wrapped), rainbow loom bracelet loops (refills), yarn, and/or gift cards to stores like Target or Michael’s to purchase these items.

*In addition, the schools we work in are often looking for gently-used games for their drop-in spaces, i.e. foosball, air hockey, etc.  If you have a larger item like this to donate, please give us a call!
